“The Language” was a successful animation. All of the elements in the animation were matched back to the theme of the video. The theme was ”language” so the entire animation looked like it was written in a dictionary. The use of typography helped make this theme even more apparent because common fonts used in a dictionary were used to write the words of the poem on the video. The color palette also worked into the theme nicely. It was a black and white color palette that matched the color palette used in a dictionary. I particularly liked the use of images that matched the words written on the screen. For example, the word emptiness started off bold, and the black fill drained out to make it seem as the words was being “emptied” and the word was left as black outline with no fill. I also liked the use of the phrases “ want so much” and “so little.” There were a lot of objects that people usually want in life such as modern technology and this represented “want so much.” Then the phrase “so little” was matched with the image of a baby still in the fetus. I also liked the use if writing in different languages to start up the animation because “language” is associated with not just English, but all other languages as well. There entire animation flowed nicely with the reading of the poem and the depiction of the poem on screen. I would like to try and use typography in my next project to go along with the theme of my animation.
“This is a Letter” was also a successful animation. It used a lot of great camera techniques to make the entire animation flow nicely and in an interesting way. There was use of close ups to emphasize certain words of the poem and panning to follow the words across the screen as if you yourself are reading them poem instead of just having it read to you. The words appearing on the screen as they were being said also helped the whole concept that you yourself are reading the poem along with the speaker. This animation also used actions and images in order to depict the word and emphasize it. For example, the word “torn” actually got ripped in half as if it were “tearing.” Also, for the phrase “good night” a spotlight was used to highlight the phrase as if it were a flashlight being used to read in the dark at night. One interesting thing in the video I really liked was the extending of letters and use of panning to follow the line extended from one letter in a word into the next word to help your eye follow the lines more easily when the panning was at a faster speed. I really liked the flow of this video and I want to use some elements used to make this animation flow in my next animation.
